Grades K–5. The curriculum is always fit to the age group. Some groups are mixed-age and some are grouped by grade, and our staff are trained for the ages they work with.

Not at all. We love a class full of kids with all kinds of experience. We meet every kid where they are and help them grow and build confidence. No experience needed.

We love being outside, and our program thrives in nature. Send kids dressed for the weather, the way you would for recess. In extreme or unsafe conditions, we will stay inside.

All program materials are provided by Fire & Knives. Kids just need closed-toe shoes, layers for the weather, and a willingness to try something new.

Tuition varies by program and town, and is listed with each open class. School-based programs are billed through the school.

Yes. Kids use fixed-blade knives with rounded tips, matched to their age and skill, with approaches shaped by our years of experience. For fire, kids use ferro rods. Like kids have for millennia, they learn with lots of safety practice and respect for the flame. We introduce them, step by step, to being around a fire, making one, and even cooking on one.

Every lead instructor is first aid and CPR certified. During enrollment, families share any allergies or medical needs, which go to the lead instructor and are kept private. We care deeply about safety and everyone's ability to participate.

Our instructors are outdoor enthusiasts and youth workers who love kids and believe in our mission. Each brings their own games, their own touch, and deep care for the kids they work with. Every instructor is background checked, and trained and certified in our curriculum before they work with a child. Every lead instructor is first aid and CPR certified.

Then they don't use it that day, and nobody is embarrassed. The instructor decides readiness every class, kid by kid. A child who has not yet shown safe handling stays with the group, works on the step before, and picks the tool up when they are ready. Skills are earned in order, and that order is the safety system.

We have programs for grades K–5. As kids grow, they unlock new skills and levels, and we're always developing new adventures and curriculum. Come back for more!

Yes. After-school enrichment is our flagship. If you'd like it at your school, tell us the school and we'll take it from there.

Outdoor Skills Club is the name we use for schools and organizations that prefer an alternative to Fire & Knives. It is the same program, delivered by the same team, with the same curriculum, instructor training and safety procedures. Children still learn outdoor skills, including fire making and tool use, with activities matched to their age and readiness. We help schools describe the program clearly so families know what to expect.

Yes. Ninety minutes of fire, carving, a treasure hunt and custom options, year-round, around Greater Boston. Details by email.
